When Steve found out his next business trip was going to be in Virginia, he immediately insisted I come along. I lived there for 5 years as a kid (age 10-15), and he was pretty excited to see my old house, neighborhood, and stomping grounds. And, I haven't been back in 17 years so I was just as excited. So, our very first stop straight from the airport was this lovely little place on Parson Lane:
Then to my first high school (I say "first" because I also went to one year in WVa. and two in CA.) where I gave my best former cheerleader pose:
Then, we headed over to dinner with the Atkinson family. They were a family in our ward and I was great friends with Mary and Julie growing up. My little bro and I also lived with them for most of my freshman year while my dad commuted for work. Lots of good food and catching up:
Now, for the DC tour. Here were some of the sights on our looooong and wonderful day in the city:
La Casa de Blanca
Bonafide Ruby Slippers
There just happened to be a garden in the middle of the National Museum of Art--a museum that unexpectedly took my breath away. So amazing to see originals that I had only seen in my Humanities and Art books.
Napoleon (I made him do this)

Young Girl Reading
Monet, anyone?
We were within 12 inches of the real thing! {The museum "guards" sternly reminded us of the rules of proximity to the art when we got too close.}
(eeks, and Bad Lighting)
Washington Monument
Washington Monument
Waaaaay in front of the Lincoln Monument. And, trust me, it is a looooong walk from the W. Monument, past the WWII Memorial and reflecting pond to the L. Monument. But such a lovely long walk.
We saw this guy and several of his friends along our walk.

Lisa, You are lookin' so stickin' GOOD! I totally need to know your secret for getting back to slim and trim!
I'm sure your reminise trip was so fun back to Virginia.
And the DC temple looks so gorgeous!
I remember the house well, thanks for the use of your bedroom. I loved the walks we took. It was that trip and at that temple that we found out I had Mormon heritage. Love the temple, was there with Jason too, what a joy. Looks like you had a wonderful time. The missionary that confirmed me a member of the Church is listed on that wall.
Looooove it!!! Wish I could have been there to see you. I remember your house so well and always think of you when I drive through Greenbriar!
What a coooool trip. I've never been and would love to go one day. And how fun to go back to your old house. If I ever get the chance to go to DC, I will get some traveling tips from you, since you did it in a day!
Oh, and your pictures are mah-velous!
what camera do you have?! I soooo want to get the "real" camera - my husband says I would drop it and break it. Did you have to convince Steve - or how did you get to purchase your new beauty? Your pictures are beautiful!!
As for more of your trip - if I didn't drive by your specific house on my drives through Greenbriar it would have been one like it! And....I totally recognize the Lowder's home - Jeannie's sisters look like her & I'm pretty sure I met Julie while we lived there.
Wow - I miss that area. Living that close to DC was fabulous - seeing picture of The Mall makes me want to go back. Really. I think that was my absolute favorite place to live.
Glad you had such a wonderful trip - how nice to be able to head back with Steve!
I can suddenly get back into your blog! yay! This trip looks like it was so much fun! Did you guys ever make it out here for Lego-land?
Your captions are hilarious :) It was good seeing you this summer! Thanks for making the time!
