We just finished making our reservations for our NYC trip in 3 weeks--wahoo! We are going to be staying at the Crowne Plaza at Times Square. Which seems to be insanely placed right where it indicates--Times Square! {Note to self: bring earplugs for sleeping at night.} We debated staying there or more upper West Side with tree-lined streets and close to Central Park, but our overwhelming advice was, Stay close to the action.
This will be our 10th Anniversary trip, just my husband and me. Oh, what will we do with ourselves?...We'll paint the town red, that's what!
Why New York? Well, first of all, Broadway, hello? I must see Broadway, and since my chances of seeing it from center-stage-looking-out are slim to zero, I will take the Mezzanine! Secondly, this trip began 10 years ago when Steve and I were engaged. I had already planned a trip with my roommates to the City That Never Sleeps--we had tickets, ready to go. Well, then Mr. Owens came along, put me on Cloud 9 {which is really far from NYC}, and asked me to marry him on a day that would be just weeks after the planned New York trip....
I decided not to go. I did not see wisdom in spending all this money just weeks before we were to become poor newlyweds anyway. Not to mention the fact that the mere thought of being away from him longer than a night's sleep seemed like a rare form of torture. {P.S. I still feel this way.}
He always promised to take me there and so, a decade and many credit card points later, that day has come. We are giddy with the prospect of New York Bagels, New York Pizza, New York Bakeries....oh, and other stuff that's not food.
Anyone been there? Any fabulous hole-in-the-wall haunts that we should know of? {Danielle, remind me of the name of those you were telling me about...}
**And lastly, we are crossing fingers that the Swine don't interrupt our plans.**

One word: jealous! Happy Anniversary!
*I have a friend that is a NYC junkie let me know if you want her number.
That sounds like fun! Its our 10 year anniversary too this year. Man, how times flies by so fast. I always thought you were so awesome in drama performances you did in high school.
the shake shack....definitely hit it up, but don't go right at lunch or dinner..go in the later afternoon!
also, a little secret is that you don't have to pay the SUGGESTED donation at the MET, you can pay what you can (and we do because we were in grad school and feeling very poor)! It's usualy $10/person...and, well we pay less than that!
walk as much as you can - you see more! unless you are in a rush - and need to take the subway or a cab...especially walk all the way through Central Park if you can!
oh sister, have i got some cupcake tips for you! if you guys want, you can come for dinner at my house. but i totally understand if this is going to be like honeymoon central. :)i'll e-mail you some tips.
I second the shake shack.
I'm so excited you got your trip booked - you're going to have a fabulous time! We moms love our little ones, but we must also admit what a happy thought it is to be alone with our hubbies for a stress-free vacation!
Lis!!! We (Mary, Jeannie, her daughter, my mom, and Isabella) just had a girls weekend in NYC (not too far for us to travel!). We LOVED it!! Times Square is a great choice to stay. We were on the 19th floor of the Marriott Marquis and only heard ambulances. We saw Mary Poppins, also. You are going to have a FAB time. Check out Mormon in Manhattan's blog for some good bakeries, etc. If you want a good, but $$ place for your anniversary dinner try the Little Owl (you need reservations).
