There is no "I" in TEAM.

Steve and I are part of a team that is working on getting fit and feeling healthy this year.

Mostly, it's just Steve and I on the team. And our kids--by virtue of that fact that they eat what mama makes!

We're hoping for the best with our efforts. Our team has joined the new gym that opened up down the street from us, and for a smokin' deal I might add. The team {I'll just call it Steve and I from here on out--you get the jist} is alternating mornings to roll out of bed when it's still dark and go tread and elipticalize* and lift heavy things to help us work toward the feeling-fit thing. When I can, I will also yogasize*, and pilate* {pronounced pY-lAte}, and step up and down and up and down and {pant, pant, pant} up and down on those little steps.

We are also watching what we put in our mouths. It's not easy. I'm not a person who goes on "diets" and so this is not so fun because I love, love to bake and eat things that go great with a tall glass of skim milk {preferrably those that dip in said milk}. There's not a lot of deprivation happening, just this:

  • not eating after 9pm {big for us since we are night owls}, and

  • saving sweets for the weekend--and even then, in moderation, Lisa! {P.S. I think I could make a pretty penny for finally uncovering the secret to adding more hours to your day--make yourself wait until the weekend to eat chocolate and "viola!"--time slows down.}

More than anything we are trying to include better things in our diets. Here's some good ones:

  • Oatmeal, or whole wheat pancakes for breakfast, with flax seed and walnuts sprinkled in.
  • Oh, also fruit smoothies which must include blueberries {for anti-oxidizing*} and a TBSP of olive oil {for MUFA's}
  • Mama needs to drink more H2O. I've never been a fan, but now is as good a time as ever.
  • Continue to avoid HFCS, and enriched white stuff.
  • Continue to eat just a little of this amazing peanut butter everyday {protein and MUFA's}.
  • Salad, salad, salad. {sigh.} It must be done.

There's more but I won't bore you with fiber, and Vitamin D, and what-not.

Our team, er, Steve and I are hoping for the best--Better fitness, more energy, fitting into some fave clothes that are collecting dust, you know--the usual. It's fun to motivate each other and report to each other on our good eating choices {i.e. "Honey, I didn't eat one brownie at Enrichment last night! Yay for me!" or "Guess what? Someone brought doughnuts into work and I refrained!"}

GO TEAM!

Ditto, Go Team. You know how we feel about the fiber, MUFAs and all that stuff and the excercise, with our track walking, machine doing, we are now up to about 20 laps of the lap pool. We missed a couple weeks during the holidays and Michael has been running the stairs to the basement and back. Good for you guys and good luck. Expect to see you both fit and trim come summer. Love to all.

Go Team! Its just little changes that can make a difference, but as we all know...the little things are actually the big things. So keep it !!!

You guys are animals. I keep thinking we need to do that, but then I keep getting fatter no matter what right now, so I see no point (I had fries for dinner last night). Let me know what works for you guys. . .and what the kids will eat (I always like a good recipe!).

Fabulous advice. Those seem like rules you could live by for a long time. Sounds like you have a sure fire plan. Good luck. I love your blog. Those family pictures are absolutely adorable. You have a beautiful family. Yes, of course we know the Wilcoxes. They lived across the street from us and he was our home teacher. How do you know them?
