I found this darn thing about 8 inches away from Gavin before I scooped him up. I scooped Gavin up, that is. I left the scorpion on the floor while the kids and I stared him down, deciding what to do. This is the biggest one I've seen and so I was too grossed out at the thought of squishing it. The kids came up with some very inventive ideas to help with his demise:
T: I know Mom! Let's get scissors and cut him up!
Pr: Let's kill it!!
Pa: We could cover him with a cup and let daddy get him later.
Pr: Let's kill him!
T: I could just shoot him with my bow and arrow! (ie hanger and pencil)
Pa: Mom, this is really good. You have to do this idea. How 'bout we spray him with hairspray and put him in a sock and then suffocate him.
Pr: I'm going to KILL him!
If you are on pins and needles I will keep you in suspense no longer. I sprayed it with Lysol (to paralyze him, obviously), then I scooped it onto a piece of paper, took the picture, then covered it with liquid dish soap. I had the kids open the door and we quickly took it outside and dropped it on the sticky traps we have in the garage. He started to move, so I poured additional soap on him to really glue him down. That'll teach 'em.

Are there a lot of those in Arizona? You should get pepper spray. I think it would work better then
Lysol. Very funny story.
I loved all the kids suggestions then the "adult" actions that were taken. You did better then I would have. I scream if I am surprised by any type of little bug. You stories are so great. I always laugh when I read them.
oh my gosh lisa that is my BIGGEST nightmare!!!!...and that one was huge! i am so terrified a scorpian is going to get in my house and get one of my kids. you seemed to handle it all in stride and stay very calm - that would not have been me. wow, good job and glad gavin is safe.
Ugh. Kelly, you should have seen me a few months ago when I saw the first scorpion in our house. I assure you I was not calm or collected--it pretty much s_cks! (You can tell I have strong feelings because I don't like that word.) I hate these things. We just try to take all the precautions we can and hope for the best.
Freaky! And so glad you caught it!
I love the brainstorming from your kids! They had great ideas:)
p.s. I saw the tag months ago about the hubby...and I've thought about it ...and haven't gotten around to it yet...but we've had a crazy busy summer...so I haven't found time in between all the updating postings!
Yowsa!!!!! That is freaky Friday for sure!!! For the record, Preston KILLS me!!!
Oh My Goodness!! I would have freaked out. We have crickets occasionally and I can't even do those. I most likely would have packed the kids up and taken off till Wyatt got home to take care of it. Then I would have not been able to sleep all night for fear of one coming in during the night. You are so much braver then I. :)
I love that it was lysol and dish soap that won the debate! SO funny! And scary too!
